As indicated in this month's newsletter, overwhelm can manifest in several different ways: physical, psychological, social, or spiritual.  This week's Java will deal with how overwhelm can manifest in the psychological realm.

"You don't have to figure everything out today.  You don't have to solve your whole life tonight.  And you don't have to tackle everything at once.  You just have to show up and try.  You just have to focus on the most immediate thing in front of you.  And you have to trust that you'll figure out the rest along the way."  -- Daniell Koepke

When overwhelm manifests psychologically you may find yourself being rude, when you normally wouldn't be, you might be overly defensive or experience forgetfulness.  These are some of the symptoms that can show up.

Today's Coaching Challenge

Do you find yourself feeling like you must finish everything that has landed on your desk, and it all has to be done now?  Where did this feeling come from?

Everything takes time.  When have you ever planted an acorn and immediately an oak tree appeared?  It doesn't work that way and deep down you know that too.  It's easy to start feeling overwhelmed when you decide that everything has to be done now or something is wrong with you.

Action to take

Stop for a moment and look at all the things that need to be completed and select the most important one to work on first.  Once that is completed move on to the next thing.  Multi-tasking is a myth.  The reality is that you can truly only work on one thing at a time.
